Ingredients

  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Fresh herbs (chives or parsley)
  • Optional toppings: Sautéed mushrooms or tomatoes

Instructions

  1. Prepare your ingredients: Slice sourdough bread to about an inch thick.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the butter.
  3. Watch closely as the butter melts and bubbles.
  4. Crack the egg into a bowl and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Lay the sourdough bread in the skillet once the butter turns golden brown.
  6. Toast for 2-3 minutes until golden and crispy.
  7. Flip the slice and add the egg to the skillet.
  8. Cook the egg to your desired doneness (2-3 minutes for runny yolk).
  9. Sprinkle fresh herbs on top of the egg.
  10. Remove from skillet, plate, and enjoy with additional brown butter if desired.

Notes

Use a nonstick or cast-iron skillet for the best results. Pay close attention to avoid burning the butter.
