Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp nutmeg
- ¾ cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3 medium apples, chopped (mix of Granny Smith and Fuji)
- Oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Peel, core, and chop the apples into small pieces. In a skillet over medium heat, melt a tablespoon of butter, add apples, cinnamon, and sugar, and sauté until softened for about 5-7 minutes. Set aside to cool.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg. In another bowl, whisk together milk and eggs, then mix into the dry ingredients until a dough forms. Fold in the cooled apple mixture.
- Heat oil in a large pot or deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
- Drop spoonfuls of dough into the hot oil, frying in batches for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- While warm, dust with powdered sugar or dip in cinnamon-sugar mix.
Notes
Test the oil with a small piece of dough before frying. Don’t overcrowd the pot when frying for the best texture.
