Description

Tender, flaky scones filled with sweet apples and drizzled with a rich maple glaze, perfect for cozy afternoons and family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (or whole wheat flour)
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced
  • 1 cup fresh apples, chopped (mix of tart and sweet)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup milk (whole or buttermilk)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Add the cold diced butter to the flour mixture and mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Fold in the chopped apples gently.
  5. Pour in the milk and mix until the dough sticks together without being overly wet. Avoid over-mixing!
  6. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and pat it into a circle about an inch thick. Cut into wedges or use a round cutter.
  7. Transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. While the scones cool, whisk together the powdered sugar and maple syrup for the glaze. Adjust with a splash of water if too thick.
  9. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled scones and serve fresh.

Notes

Ensure butter is cold for the best texture. Experiment with different types of apples for varied flavor profiles.
