Description
Tender, flaky scones filled with sweet apples and drizzled with a rich maple glaze, perfect for cozy afternoons and family gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (or whole wheat flour)
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced
- 1 cup fresh apples, chopped (mix of tart and sweet)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup milk (whole or buttermilk)
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
- Add the cold diced butter to the flour mixture and mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Fold in the chopped apples gently.
- Pour in the milk and mix until the dough sticks together without being overly wet. Avoid over-mixing!
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and pat it into a circle about an inch thick. Cut into wedges or use a round cutter.
- Transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- While the scones cool, whisk together the powdered sugar and maple syrup for the glaze. Adjust with a splash of water if too thick.
- Drizzle the glaze over the cooled scones and serve fresh.
Notes
Ensure butter is cold for the best texture. Experiment with different types of apples for varied flavor profiles.
