Delicious bobotie-inspired meatballs infused with vibrant spices and sweet dried fruits, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground meat (beef or lamb)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped finely
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp curry powder
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • ½ cup dried apricots or raisins, chopped
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 2 large eggs, whisked
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (fresh or dried)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Sauté the onions in a splash of olive oil until translucent, then add garlic and ginger.
  3. Combine the ground meat with the sautéed mixture, dried fruits, and spices.
  4. Incorporate breadcrumbs and eggs into the meat mixture, mixing gently.
  5. Shape into golf ball-sized meatballs.
  6. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Whisk together the remaining eggs and milk; pour over meatballs and bake for another 15 minutes.

Notes

Experiment with different ground meats or make it vegetarian with lentils. Allow meatballs to rest before baking for better texture.
