Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup toasted pecans, chopped
  • 1 cup chocolate chunks or chips
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Brown the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until golden brown and fragrant. Set aside to cool.
  2. In a bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, and a pinch of salt; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the browned butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until creamy. Add eggs and vanilla, beating well after each addition.
  4. Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients, folding gently until just mixed.
  5. Fold in the toasted pecans and chocolate chunks.
  6. Chill the dough for 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  8. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the baking sheet, leaving space between them.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are golden and centers are just set.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

For a nut-free version, omit the pecans. You can substitute bourbon with aged rum or additional vanilla extract.
