  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for buttercream)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for buttercream)
  • Optional: 1/2 cup colorful sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time and mix until fully incorporated. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, and stir until just combined.
  4. If using, fold in the sprinkles into the batter, then pour into the prepared dish. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  5. Once baked, let the bars cool completely. For the buttercream, beat the softened butter with powdered sugar, a splash of milk, and vanilla until creamy. Spread over the cooled cake bars.
  6. Cut into squares and enjoy!

Notes

For a richer buttercream flavor, substitute half of the powdered sugar with brown sugar.
