- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 cups powdered sugar (for buttercream)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for buttercream)
- Optional: 1/2 cup colorful sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time and mix until fully incorporated. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, and stir until just combined.
- If using, fold in the sprinkles into the batter, then pour into the prepared dish. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Once baked, let the bars cool completely. For the buttercream, beat the softened butter with powdered sugar, a splash of milk, and vanilla until creamy. Spread over the cooled cake bars.
- Cut into squares and enjoy!
Notes
For a richer buttercream flavor, substitute half of the powdered sugar with brown sugar.
