Description
Delightfully fun Cheesy Halloween Breadstick Bones that bring whimsy and warmth to your Halloween celebrations, filled with gooey cheese and savory herbs.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups bread flour (or all-purpose flour)
- 1 packet instant yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
- 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- Sea salt for sprinkling
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water and yeast; let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour, salt, and olive oil; stir until a dough forms, then knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Once risen, punch the dough down, divide it into portions, and roll into long cylinders about a foot long. Shape into bones with enlarged ends for knuckles.
- Flatten dough slightly, add cheese and minced garlic, wrap dough around filling, sealing tightly.
- Let shapes rest for 20-30 minutes; preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush tops with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and herbs.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool slightly before serving with warm marinara sauce.
Notes
For a healthier twist, you can swap the cheese for a plant-based version or use whole wheat flour. Keep an eye on the dough during rising to avoid cold spots.
