Description
A nostalgic holiday treat made with saltine crackers, rich toffee, and smooth chocolate, perfect for sharing during festive gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package of Saltine crackers
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Flaky sea salt to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange a single layer of saltine crackers tightly together.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together, stirring until it comes to a rolling boil. Let it boil without stirring for 3-4 minutes until golden caramel in color.
- Carefully pour the hot toffee mixture over the saltines, spreading it evenly.
- Bake the toffee in the preheated oven for 5-6 minutes, or until bubbling and deep golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee. Let them sit for a few minutes to melt, then spread the chocolate evenly.
- While the chocolate is warm, sprinkle flaky sea salt on top.
- Let the toffee cool at room temperature until firm, ideally refrigerate for about 30 minutes before breaking into pieces.
Notes
Ensure the toffee mixture boils properly for the perfect crunch, and let it cool completely before storing.
