Description

Deliciously soft sticky buns with warm cinnamon, gooey maple syrup, and crunchy walnuts, perfect for family gatherings and brunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (or bread flour)
  • 1 packet instant yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk (or almond/oat milk)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted, or margarine/coconut oil)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar)
  • 1 large egg (or flaxseed egg/applesauce for vegan)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts (or pecans)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and sugar, and add yeast. Let it rest for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Gradually add the flour mixture into the yeast mixture, incorporating melted butter and the egg until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Transfer to a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise until doubled, 1-2 hours.
  4. Prepare the Filling: In a separate bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and walnuts. Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread softened butter, and sprinkle the filling evenly.
  5. Shape the Rolls: Starting with the longer side, tightly roll the dough into a log and cut into even pieces. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish.
  6. Rise Again: Cover and let rise for 30-40 minutes. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Bake: Bake rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. In the last few minutes, prepare a maple syrup glaze by warming syrup with butter and salt.
  8. Drizzle and Serve: Pour the warm glaze over the rolls and serve immediately.

Notes

Ensure yeast is fresh for the best rise. Use gentle kneading to keep buns soft. Let cool slightly before drizzling glaze.
