- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup whole milk (warm)
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for the filling)
- 2 tablespoons cinnamon
- 1/4 cup softened butter (for spreading)
- 3 eggs (for custard bath)
- 1 cup milk (for custard bath)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- Milk (for glaze as needed)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Whisk until well-combined.
- In another bowl, warm the milk and mix in sugar until dissolved. Allow to cool then beat in eggs and melted butter.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently to combine. Adjust flour if necessary until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- Mix together sugar and cinnamon for the filling and set aside.
- Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle, spread softened butter, and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar mix.
- Roll tightly into a log and slice into 1-inch rounds.
- Place slices in a greased loaf pan, cover, and let rise again until puffy (about 30-45 minutes).
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, vanilla, and salt for the custard bath. Pour over risen dough.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
- For the glaze, mix powdered sugar with milk until smooth and drizzle over warm bread.
- Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
To achieve a fluffier texture, let the dough be a bit sticky during the mixing stage.
