Description

A delightful Cinnamon Swirl Bread recipe infused with a rich custard bath and topped with a sweet glaze, perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup whole milk (warm)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for the filling)
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup softened butter (for spreading)
  • 3 eggs (for custard bath)
  • 1 cup milk (for custard bath)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • Milk (for glaze as needed)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Whisk until well-combined.
  2. In another bowl, warm the milk and mix in sugar until dissolved. Allow to cool then beat in eggs and melted butter.
  3. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently to combine. Adjust flour if necessary until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  6. Mix together sugar and cinnamon for the filling and set aside.
  7. Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle, spread softened butter, and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar mix.
  8. Roll tightly into a log and slice into 1-inch rounds.
  9. Place slices in a greased loaf pan, cover, and let rise again until puffy (about 30-45 minutes).
  10. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  11. In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, vanilla, and salt for the custard bath. Pour over risen dough.
  12. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  13. For the glaze, mix powdered sugar with milk until smooth and drizzle over warm bread.
  14. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

To achieve a fluffier texture, let the dough be a bit sticky during the mixing stage.
