Description
A delightful blend of sweet apples and tart cranberries in a savory stuffing, perfect for family gatherings and holidays.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf crusty bread (sourdough or whole grain)
- 2 tart apples (such as Granny Smith), chopped
- 1 cup dried cranberries
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 tablespoon fresh sage, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
- 2 cups low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions
- Prep your ingredients: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Cube your bread and set it aside to dry out.
- Sauté the aromatics: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and add the chopped onion and celery, cooking until translucent.
- Mix together: In a large bowl, combine the bread cubes, the sautéed mixture, chopped apples, dried cranberries, and herbs.
- Moisten it up: Pour warmed broth into the mixture, allowing it to soak for about 10 minutes.
- Add the egg: Incorporate a beaten egg to bind everything together.
- Transfer to a baking dish: Pour the stuffing mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Bake: Cover with foil and bake for about 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
- Serve: Allow it to cool slightly before serving, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
Notes
Do not use fresh bread; allow cubed bread to dry out for ideal texture. Adjust broth as needed to achieve desired moisture.
