Description
Delightful and crispy onion ring chips made with Parmesan cheese—perfect for snacking and gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large onions (sweet Vidalia or yellow)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (or panko for extra crunch)
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (freshly grated preferred)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Optional herbs (fresh or dried) for seasoning
- Olive oil for baking
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) or heat your frying oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Slice the onions into thick rings, about ½-inch wide, and separate the rings carefully.
- Combine the buttermilk with a sprinkle of salt in a bowl to marinate the rings for 20-30 minutes.
- Mix the breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, garlic powder, and any additional seasonings in another bowl.
- Coat each onion ring in the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring a generous covering on all sides.
- For baking, place the rings on a parchment-lined baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil, and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- If frying, carefully place the rings in the hot oil and fry until crispy and golden.
Notes
For extra crunch, consider double-dipping the rings. Use a cooling rack while baking for better crispiness.
