Ingredients

  • 8 oz bittersweet chocolate
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (or coconut oil)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease an 8-inch round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt chocolate and butter over low heat, stirring until smooth.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in sugar until glossy.
  4. Cool slightly and whisk in eggs, one at a time, until fully incorporated.
  5. Gently fold in cocoa powder and salt until no streaks remain.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for about 25 minutes until set at the edges but slightly soft in the center.
  8. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack and cool completely.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar or serve with whipped cream if desired.

Notes

For a denser cake, refrigerate overnight. Serve cold for enhanced flavor!
