Instructions

  1. Heat a heavy-bottom skillet over medium heat and melt the butter or olive oil.
  2. Add the diced mushrooms and sauté until they brown and release their moisture, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Toss in the minced garlic and sauté for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Sprinkle in the flour, stirring until combined and light golden brown, about 1-2 minutes.
  5. Gradually whisk in the vegetable broth, continuing to stir until the mixture thickens.
  6. Incorporate the chosen herbs and season with salt, pepper, and optional sauces.
  7. If using cream, add it in at the end for extra richness, and adjust seasoning as desired.
  8. Let it simmer for a few minutes before serving over your favorite dishes.
