Delightful cinnamon rolls with a festive twist, topped with a vibrant blood orange icing that evokes the Halloween spirit.

- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup buttery spread (or butter)
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup blood orange juice
- Zest of 1 blood orange
Instructions
- Warm the milk in a saucepan until it’s warm to the touch. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a spoonful of sugar. Allow to sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In another bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Gradually add yeast mixture, melted butter, and eggs. Stir into a soft dough.
- Knead dough on a floured surface for about 5-10 minutes until smooth.
- Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about an hour until doubled.
- Once risen, punch down and roll into a rectangle. Spread with butter, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar, then roll into a log.
- Slice the log into even pieces and place in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- For the icing, mix powdered sugar, blood orange juice, and zest until smooth.
- Drizzle icing over warm rolls and let soak in before serving.
Notes
For a dairy-free option, substitute butter with coconut oil. Whole wheat flour can be used for added fiber.
