Description

Delightful turnovers with flaky pastry and a sweet cherry filling, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package of Puff Pastry
  • 2 cups Fresh Cherries, pitted and halved
  • 1/4 cup Sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cherry Filling: In a skillet over medium heat, combine cherries, sugar, and cornstarch. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until cherries soften. Stir in vanilla and allow to cool.
  2. Roll Out the Puff Pastry: Dust your surface with flour and roll out the pastry to 1/8 inch thick. Cut into squares or rectangles.
  3. Fill the Pastry: Spoon cooled cherry mixture onto half of each pastry square, leaving room at the edges.
  4. Fold and Seal: Fold pastry over and seal edges firmly. Crimp with a fork if desired.
  5. Egg Wash: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Brush tops with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
  6. Bake: Arrange on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Cool and Serve: Let cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

For best results, ensure the pastry remains cold before baking. Ventilate turnovers to prevent sogginess.
