- 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions
- Prepare your workspace: Lightly grease your countertop or marble slab with butter.
- Cook the mixture: In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over medium heat until it reaches 250°F (hard ball stage).
- Add salt and butter: Remove from heat and stir in the salt and butter until melted. Add flavoring if desired.
- Cool slightly: Let the mixture cool until safe to handle but still pliable.
- Knead the taffy: Grease your hands with butter and knead until glossy and lighter in color.
- Pull and stretch: Stretch and fold the taffy for about 10 minutes until firm and chewy.
- Shape and wrap: Roll into a log, cut into pieces, and wrap in wax paper.
- Store in an airtight container for up to three weeks.
