Description

A nostalgic and sweet treat that captures the essence of childhood, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup corn syrup (or honey/agave syrup)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp butter (or coconut oil for dairy-free)
  • Flavoring extract (vanilla, peppermint, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace: Lightly grease your countertop or marble slab with butter.
  2. Cook the mixture: In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over medium heat until it reaches 250°F (hard ball stage).
  3. Add salt and butter: Remove from heat and stir in the salt and butter until melted. Add flavoring if desired.
  4. Cool slightly: Let the mixture cool until safe to handle but still pliable.
  5. Knead the taffy: Grease your hands with butter and knead until glossy and lighter in color.
  6. Pull and stretch: Stretch and fold the taffy for about 10 minutes until firm and chewy.
  7. Shape and wrap: Roll into a log, cut into pieces, and wrap in wax paper.
  8. Store in an airtight container for up to three weeks.

Notes

Humidity can affect the texture, so aim to make on dry days. Experiment with flavorings for a personalized touch.
