A creamy and savory chicken casserole with mushrooms and a crunchy breadcrumb topping, perfect for family dinners.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked chicken, diced
  • 1 cup fresh cremini or button mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add the diced chicken and cook until golden brown.
  3. Add minced garlic and sliced mushrooms, stirring until the mushrooms soften.
  4. In a bowl, mix cream of chicken soup, sour cream, and half of the cheddar cheese. Stir in the sautéed chicken and mushrooms.
  5. Pour the mixture into the baking dish and smooth it out.
  6. In another bowl, combine breadcrumbs, remaining cheese, and a bit of melted butter. Sprinkle over the casserole.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  8. Allow to cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a lighter version, consider diluting the cream of chicken soup with chicken broth.
