- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking dish with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt, then gradually add to the wet mixture until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using) until evenly distributed.
- Spread the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow the bars to cool completely, then cut into squares and enjoy!
Notes
For a vegan option, substitute coconut oil for butter and use flax eggs instead.
