A moist and velvety Red Velvet Cake with cream cheese frosting, perfect for celebrations.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tbsp red food coloring
- 1 tsp vinegar
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
- In a bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix the sugar and vegetable oil. Add the eggs, one at a time, and beat well. Stir in the buttermilk and red food coloring, followed by the vinegar.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing gently until combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
- For the frosting, beat together cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Frost between the layers and on top of the cooled cake.
- Decorate as desired with fresh berries or chocolate shavings.
- Serve and enjoy with loved ones!
Notes
