Description

A moist and velvety Red Velvet Cake with cream cheese frosting, perfect for celebrations.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix the sugar and vegetable oil. Add the eggs, one at a time, and beat well. Stir in the buttermilk and red food coloring, followed by the vinegar.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing gently until combined.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
  7. For the frosting, beat together cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Frost between the layers and on top of the cooled cake.
  8. Decorate as desired with fresh berries or chocolate shavings.
  9. Serve and enjoy with loved ones!

Notes

For a more buttery flavor, melted butter can be used instead of vegetable oil.
