- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 cup whole milk (or almond/oat milk)

- 1 large egg (or flax egg for vegan)
- 2 tablespoons red food coloring
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (optional)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cream cheese
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
Instructions
- Warm the milk slightly and mix in sugar and yeast. Let it sit until bubbly (5-10 minutes).
- In a bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, and salt. In another bowl, combine the egg, melted butter, and red food coloring.
- Combine the yeast mixture with the flour mixture, then add the egg mixture and stir to form a sticky dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Let it rise in a greased bowl covered with a towel for about 1 hour.
- Mix cinnamon, sugar, and softened butter for the filling.
- Roll the dough into a rectangle and spread the cinnamon filling over it, leaving a border.
- Roll tightly from the long side, pinch seams, and cut into 12 equal rolls.
- Place in a greased dish, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes until lightly golden.
- Mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract for frosting while rolls bake.
- Let the rolls cool slightly, then frost and serve warm.

These cinnamon rolls are best served warm and can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
