Ingredients

  • 4 cups apples, peeled and chopped
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 cup salted caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a rimmed baking sheet by greasing it or lining it with parchment paper.
  2. Peel and core the apples, then chop them into bite-size pieces. Toss them in lemon juice.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and spices.
  4. In another bowl, beat the softened butter with granulated and brown sugars until light and fluffy.
  5. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then mix in the milk until combined.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chopped apples.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking sheet and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  9. Prepare the salted caramel sauce while the cake bakes. In a saucepan, combine sugar, butter, and heavy cream over medium heat, stirring until dissolved.
  10. After the cake cools slightly, drizzle the warm salted caramel sauce over the top and allow it to cool completely before cutting into squares.

Notes

Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or at room temperature with powdered sugar. This cake can be frozen for up to 3 months.
