- 4 pounds apples (a mix of Fuji, Honeycrisp, and Granny Smith)
- 1 cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar/maple syrup)
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Wash and peel apples, then core and chop into small pieces.
- In a large bowl, combine chopped apples, sugar, lemon juice, and spices. Mix well.
- Transfer the apple mixture into the slow cooker.
- Cover and set to low heat, cooking for 6 to 8 hours until soft.
- Stir occasionally, especially towards the end, until desired consistency is reached.
- For a smoother texture, use an immersion blender.
- Once cooled, pour into sterilized jars and seal tightly.
Notes
Adjust sweetness and spices according to taste. Remember, the apple butter will thicken as it cools.
