Description

A rich, buttery spread made from slow-cooked apples and warm spices, perfect for toast, pancakes, and more.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pounds apples (a mix of Fuji, Honeycrisp, and Granny Smith)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar/maple syrup)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Wash and peel apples, then core and chop into small pieces.
  2. In a large bowl, combine chopped apples, sugar, lemon juice, and spices. Mix well.
  3. Transfer the apple mixture into the slow cooker.
  4. Cover and set to low heat, cooking for 6 to 8 hours until soft.
  5. Stir occasionally, especially towards the end, until desired consistency is reached.
  6. For a smoother texture, use an immersion blender.
  7. Once cooled, pour into sterilized jars and seal tightly.

Notes

Adjust sweetness and spices according to taste. Remember, the apple butter will thicken as it cools.
