- 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
- ¾ cup cocoa powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour your cake pans.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa powder, and a pinch of salt.
- Alternate adding the dry mixture and the milk to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Pour the batter into your prepared cake pans and smooth the top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Decorate with buttercream frosting and festive toppings as desired.
