Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted Butter
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 3 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • Red and Green Food Coloring

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter and sugars together until fluffy and light.
  2. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well before adding the vanilla extract.
  3. Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl, then gradually mix into the wet ingredients.
  4. Divide the dough into two equal parts and color one red and the other green.
  5. Roll each color into a rectangle on a floured surface and lay them on top of each other.
  6. Swirl the two colors together to form a log, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for 1 hour.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and slice the chilled dough into 1/4-inch thick rounds.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are set but centers are soft.
  9. Cool on a wire rack and optionally frost with icing.

Notes

For a dairy-free version, substitute coconut oil for butter. Chill the dough before baking to maintain the shape.
