Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Optional: colorful sprinkles or crushed candy canes
Instructions
- Cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
- Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
- Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, being careful not to overmix.
- Split the dough in half and mix cocoa powder into one half.
- Wrap both halves in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Roll out both doughs into rectangles on a floured surface. Stack the chocolate dough on top of the vanilla, and roll them together to form a log.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and slice the log into half-inch rounds.
- Place the slices on a lined baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden.
- Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack, then sprinkle with optional toppings.
Notes
Ensure to chill the dough to prevent over spreading. Customize with toppings and enjoy with hot cocoa or vanilla ice cream.
