Description
A delightful pastry filled with spiced apples, perfect for autumn gatherings and warm memories.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup cold unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup ice-cold water
- 4 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp milk or cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water until the dough holds together. Divide in half, shape into disks, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least an hour.
- Prepare the Filling: Peel and slice the apples. Toss them with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Set aside.
- Roll out the Dough: Roll out one disk of dough into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick.
- Assemble the Kringle: Spoon the apple filling down the center of the dough, fold the edges over the filling, and pinch seams tightly. Slash the top gently to let steam escape.
- Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Brush the top with an egg wash. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until golden brown and apples are bubbling.
- Make the Glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle over the warm Kringle.
- Serve: Cool for a few moments, slice, and enjoy.
