Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter
  • 1 cup diced fresh apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 23 tablespoons maple syrup (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Fold in the diced apples.
  5. Combine heavy cream and egg in another bowl, then add to dry ingredients.
  6. Turn the dough onto a floured surface, press it into a 1 inch thick circle.
  7. Cut into wedges or shapes, and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden.
  9. Mix powdered sugar with maple syrup for glaze and drizzle over warm scones.

Notes

For a special touch, sprinkle chopped nuts on top of the glaze for added crunch.
