Description
A heartwarming family tradition featuring cheesy roll-ups made with sourdough bread and savory fillings.
Ingredients
- Sourdough bread
- Mozzarella cheese (or provolone, pepper jack)
- Marinara sauce or pizza sauce
- Pepperoni (or turkey pepperoni)
- Sautéed mushrooms (or sautéed bell peppers, zucchini)
- Italian herbs, garlic powder, crushed red pepper
Instructions
- Prep your sourdough: Slice your sourdough bread into thin sheets, about half an inch thick.
- Create the filling: In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped mushrooms (or any veggies) and a sprinkle of salt. Sauté until tender, then remove from heat.
- Assemble the roll-ups: Spread marinara sauce over each slice of sourdough. Add cheese, sautéed mushrooms, and seasonings. Roll tightly and place seam-side down on a baking sheet.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the roll-ups with olive oil or melted butter. Bake for 15-20 minutes until crisp and bubbly.
- Serve: Let cool before serving with more marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
Ensure your sourdough is slightly stale, and avoid overstuffing to prevent filling from spilling out while baking.
