Description
A heartwarming Classic Meat Pie filled with tender beef, aromatic vegetables, and a flaky crust that embodies comfort and nostalgia.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 1 cup peas
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tsp fresh thyme
- 1 tsp fresh rosemary
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Chop the onions, garlic, carrots, and any other vegetables you plan to use.
- Heat a tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, sautéing for about 5 minutes.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart, and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Toss in the carrots and peas, mixing well, and allow to soften for about 5-7 minutes.
- Pour in the beef broth, sprinkle in your herbs, and season with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer until thickened, about 10 minutes.
- Roll out your pie crust and fit it into a pie dish. Pour in the meat mixture, smoothing the top.
- Cover with another layer of pie crust, sealing the edges. Cut slits in the top for steam to escape and brush with egg wash.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
- Cool the pie for at least 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Use high-quality meat for the best flavor and don’t skip the resting time for cleaner cuts.
