Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Sauté the onions until translucent and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the garlic and sauté for another minute.
  4. Create the roux by sprinkling in the flour and cooking for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Pour in the broth gradually, whisking to prevent lumps.
  6. Season with salt, pepper, and a dash of soy sauce.
  7. Finish with a splash of milk or cream, stirring to combine.
  8. Serve hot over mashed potatoes or rice.
