Description
Deliciously crafted Ham and Cheese Sticks perfect for gatherings and snacks, featuring a buttery crust filled with savory ham and melty cheese.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup butter, cold and diced
- 1 cup smoked or honey-baked ham, sliced
- 1 cup sharp cheddar or mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Fresh herbs (optional, such as thyme or rosemary)
Instructions
- Prepare the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk before adding them to the flour mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms. Knead it gently on a floured surface until smooth.
- Roll out the dough: Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough to about ¼ inch thick.
- Fill with ham and cheese: Cut the dough into rectangles, place a slice of ham and a generous portion of cheese in the center of each rectangle. Fold and pinch the edges tightly.
- Prepare for baking: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the sticks on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the tops with beaten egg.
- Bake to perfection: Bake for 15-20 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
- Cool and enjoy: Let them cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For a healthier option, use whole wheat flour and add sautéed vegetables to the filling.
