Description
A nostalgic candy treat that brings families together with its sweet, chewy texture and delightful flavors.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (or other flavoring)
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
Instructions
- Combine ingredients: In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, mix the sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt. Stir constantly over medium heat until the mixture comes to a boil.
- Heat to 260°F: Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature. Once it hits this temperature, your taffy is almost there!
- Add butter and flavor: Remove from heat and stir in the butter and your chosen flavor extract. Let it sit until bubbly, and then let it cool until it’s manageable to touch.
- Knead and stretch: Lightly grease your hands and the surface. Pull and stretch the taffy like you would dough, folding it back over itself.
- Wrap and store: Once it feels smooth and shiny, shape into a log, and wrap individual pieces in wax paper to keep them fresh.
Notes
Ensure your thermometer is calibrated; accuracy is crucial. Be patient while pulling the taffy. If the taffy is too tacky, lightly grease your hands with butter.
