Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (or other flavoring)
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

  1. Combine ingredients: In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, mix the sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt. Stir constantly over medium heat until the mixture comes to a boil.
  2. Heat to 260°F: Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature. Once it hits this temperature, your taffy is almost there!
  3. Add butter and flavor: Remove from heat and stir in the butter and your chosen flavor extract. Let it sit until bubbly, and then let it cool until it’s manageable to touch.
  4. Knead and stretch: Lightly grease your hands and the surface. Pull and stretch the taffy like you would dough, folding it back over itself.
  5. Wrap and store: Once it feels smooth and shiny, shape into a log, and wrap individual pieces in wax paper to keep them fresh.

Notes

Ensure your thermometer is calibrated; accuracy is crucial. Be patient while pulling the taffy. If the taffy is too tacky, lightly grease your hands with butter.
