Description

A delightful overnight casserole that combines buttery bread, fresh blueberries, and a rich custard, perfect for special occasions or cozy brunches.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 cups bread cubes (preferably challah or brioche)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups fresh blueberries (or frozen, thawed)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Prep the bread by cutting it into cubes and letting it sit out to dry.
  2. Make the custard by whisking together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon.
  3. Combine half of the bread cubes with half of the blueberries in a greased casserole dish, then repeat the layers.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the layered bread and blueberries, pressing down gently to absorb.
  5. Chill the dish overnight, covered with plastic wrap.
  6. Bake the next morning at 350°F (175°C) for 40-45 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar, and drizzled with maple syrup if desired.

Notes

For a lighter option, use almond or oat milk. For a dairy-free version, substitute the milk and bread accordingly.
