- 8 cups bread cubes (preferably challah or brioche)
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 cups fresh blueberries (or frozen, thawed)
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Prep the bread by cutting it into cubes and letting it sit out to dry.
- Make the custard by whisking together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon.
- Combine half of the bread cubes with half of the blueberries in a greased casserole dish, then repeat the layers.
- Pour the custard mixture over the layered bread and blueberries, pressing down gently to absorb.
- Chill the dish overnight, covered with plastic wrap.
- Bake the next morning at 350°F (175°C) for 40-45 minutes until golden brown.
- Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar, and drizzled with maple syrup if desired.
Notes
For a lighter option, use almond or oat milk. For a dairy-free version, substitute the milk and bread accordingly.
