Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- Beat the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar together until creamy and light, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing in lemon zest for added brightness.
- Whisk together flour, baking powder, and spices in a separate bowl.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing gently.
- Fold in the diced pears and nuts (if using), ensuring even distribution.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
